Being Loved on is her favorite pass-time

Sessions, spaces, and experiences where horses lead the way.

Horse to Human began in 2015, born from a deep love for horses and the transformative power they hold—not only for their own healing but for ours as well. What started as a small vision to rescue and rehabilitate horses has grown into a sanctuary, where both humans and horses come together in a space of compassion, learning, and growth.

Our mission is simple yet profound: to empower horses and humans through a relationship built on trust, kindness, and connection. Guided by the principles of natural horsemanship, we create opportunities for healing that are grounded in empathy and mutual respect.

Over the years, we have become a small but devoted team, joined by a herd of eight magnificent rescued horses—each with their own story, their own journey of resilience. They are the living proof of what love and compassion can achieve, and together, they invite you to experience the world through their eyes.

Horse to Human is not just a rescue center. It’s a place of profound healing, where horses and humans learn, grow, and heal side by side. Here, we offer a variety of sessions—each designed with the belief that horses have much to teach us, not only about horsemanship but about communication, leadership, empathy, and connection.

Whether you’re drawn to deepen your understanding of horse behavior, embark on a journey of self-discovery, or seek support in navigating the world with neurodivergence—we promise you’ll find a welcoming space and a community ready to walk with you, at your pace, through every moment of your journey.

MEET THE HERD

FLAME

Hi, I’m Flame.
I’ve been by Mirrabelle’s side for 25 years—and counting. We’ve grown up together, and if you ask me, we’ve taught each other just about everything worth knowing. I’m the oldest in the herd, around 38 years now. I have PPID (like Zoey), which means I need a special diet, extra grooming, and regular care to feel my best. But don’t let my age fool you—when I’m with my students, I’m all heart and horsepower. I’m especially connected to neurodiverse students. There’s something about their presence, their way of being—it resonates deeply with mine. I’ve been told I have a calming presence, but honestly, I just show up as I am: steady, curious, and quietly attentive. The humans once tried to “retire” me. Nice idea in theory… but when my students showed up, I bulldoze my way through the gate to get to them. I’m not ready to stop doing what I love. These days, I may move a little slower, but my purpose runs deep. I’m not here to impress anyone. I’m here to connect, to be and hold space.

NOUNOURS

Hi there, who are you?
My name is Nounours. I’m big. Like, really big. And yes, I know—I can look rather intimidating at first, but truth be told, I’m more of a teddy bear than a warrior. I was once a malnourished foal, taken away from my mum when I was just two months old. I was sick, and unsure of my place in the world. Then I met a very pale human, and she took me home. The past is history now, and I’ve grown into someone much steadier: a protector. To most, I appear to be just strong and powerful, but ask those I trust—I am kind, I am soft, I am responsive, and I can be incredibly gentle. I’m a guardian—not a fighter. Unless challenged. I am never afraid, unless… bees, or medicine, or (the horror!) needles are involved! (Seriously—needles. Absolutely not.) Because of my size and high-energy nature, my care costs reflect my needs. I like my feed bucket full, and a big bundle of hay. I don’t ask for much—just be patient, respect my needs, and be someone who sees the gentle heart beneath my big, strong appearance. While I can be blinding white when clean, I love a good roll in the sand—bonus if it’s mud. I believe mud is a lifestyle choice. Oh—let me tell you a secret. I have the BIGGEST crush on Pebbles. She is so pretty it drives me crazy sometimes. Whenever she is out of my sight, I can’t breathe until she returns home. I like to think of myself as the man of the house. I watch over the herd and make sure everyone stays at home and stays safe.

MONSOON

Hi, I’m Monsoon, here is my “about me” section:
Those who know me say I’m affectionate, big-hearted, and full of fun—once I let you in. Some call me Mozzarella… not sure why, honestly. The way to my heart? Through my stomach, obviously. I need my human to help me feel safe and stick around—because when I bond, I really bond. For advanced, long-term students, I make a wonderfully honest teacher. I move like a (thick) weightless whisper. I watch the world with excitement, curiosity, and just a little caution. And when something finally does happen—well, be ready. I might leap straight into your arms. I’m also a horsey submarine, known to dunk half my face in the water in search of the cool stuff underneath. (Pro tip for any horses reading this: works great in summer.) Most of the time, you’ll find me happily munching hay. But then—wait—what’s that? A smell, a hint, a whisper in the breeze… Yep. I’ve got one thing on my mind: food, snacks, treats, yummies… does that happen to you?

KLEO

Hi, I’m Kleo.
I arrived at HtoH a shadow of who I really am. i remember being so so so so hungry, afraid, and constantly on edge. With time, patience, and a whole lot of love, I’m feeling like I’m bounce back—physically, emotionally, and even socially. I’m still in recovery and need daily care, regular pedicures, and lots of support. But I’ve also rediscovered something I’d forgotten: the joy of movement (especially zoomies), the comfort of connection, and the magic of being seen. These days, I’m exploring my character—shy yet sweet, cuddly yet spirited. I carry myself with full-on princess energy… even when my farts give me a little extra boost. Healing has a sense of humor, apparently. One of the biggest surprises? How curious I’ve become about humans. I used to be scared, but now I find myself drawn to them—especially the little ones. Their laughter, their energy, their presence… I love watching them, not just carrying them on my back. I don’t know exactly what my future holds, but I have a feeling I’m on my way to becoming a facilitator of therapy sessions at HorsetoHuman. I’m healing, I’m learning, that it isn’t just about feeling better physically. It’s about becoming who I am, who I was always supposed  to be!

ZOEY

Hi, I’m Zoey!
I’m basically built like a fluffy Pomeranian—but don’t be fooled, I’m actually a pocket-sized unicorn. While some people say little ponies can be a handful, I KNOW I’m a total delight in every way. I love working with both kids and grown-ups, but most of all, I love reminding humans that magic is real. I do have Cushing’s Disease (also called PPID), so I need a special diet and lots of grooming to keep me feeling my best. But don’t worry—none of that gets in the way of my sparkly spirit. When you visit Horse to Human, I’ll probably be the first to greet you. Come say hi—I’ll be waiting!

PEBBLES

Hi, I’m Pebbles. I like spending time testing humans’ active listening skills, eating hay in a shaded spot, or going on outdoor adventures (I’m currently making my way through the local grass tasting menu). I enjoy meeting new people— as I’m conducting an ongoing study on human diversity and behavior. I love to observe, but I’ve discovered I enjoy holding space for all kinds of people living all kinds of things! I do need a bit of extra support and a fixed diet—my skin is sensitive, and I’ve been called a picky eater (personally, I think I just have good taste). And just between us, my daily personal challenge is seeing how many of my herd members I can keep “accidentally” captive in the stables until feeding time… so I can have all of Nounours’ attention to myself.
I look forward to seeing you soon and conversing with you.

Chou-Chou

Hi, I’m Chou-Chou, I’m a very deep and sensitive soul, a more reserved member in the herd. It took me a long time to come out of my shell after I arrived home—and to be honest, I confused everyone at first. But with time, gentleness, and a lot of listening from my humans, something became clear: I need routine, compassion, and familiar faces to feel safe. I always stand ready in my feeding spot when it’s breakfast time, and love it when my humans are on time. I won’t open up quickly—but if you’re patient and kind, I might let you in. And when I do, you’ll find a fiercely loyal friend who loves with her whole heart. My favorite pass time ? When my human friend comes over to walk us to a grass field and I get to spend hours munching on the grass. He even goes to pick me leaves from the trees i cannot reach, oh I love those yummy leaves. It’s the little things in life which I appreciate. I have a few health needs too, like dental issues that require regular care to keep me comfortable, but luckily the humans book the dentist visits always on time.

Banana

Hey, I’m Banana. I’m very committed to minding your business, and challenging the meaning of personal space. My biggest mission every day? Breaking & Entering for an extra snack from the main kitchen. The humans keep changing the locking mechanisms, but little do they know I’ve made it my life’s work to outsmart their defenses. The last four break-ins were so successful, I nearly gave myself colic. Worth it? Absolutely. Still, the humans keep saying how much they love me—probably because of my creativity and my unwavering dedication to being their “helper.” My special skills include: • Saliva-based hair styling • Checking pockets • Stealing sunglasses, hats, shoes, and camera gear. All of this, of course, is to protect them from the horrors of boredom and the dangers of a monotonous daily life. You’re welcome.
